How is surfing in El Médano?
The truth is that there are no big waves in El Medano, but you can enjoy surfing even with small waves. Many days there are ideal conditions for learning, when there is moderate wind and small waves.

Starting from the top down:
- La Pelada Beach: Small and short wave. There are few people. Sand bottom.
- La Jaquita and El Cabezo Beaches: Several wave peaks in the area. Good waves if the conditions are favorable. Rock bottom only at the beginning, the rest is sandy bottom.
- Playa Chica: The waves are small but with a good ride, perfect for longboards or paddlesurfing.
- Leocadio Machado Beach: Waves for beginners. A little saturated of people for the schools of surf. Sand bottom.
- La Tejita Beach: Waves for high level surfers. If the conditions are favourable there is a strong wave that closes with a tube.
As you will see, El Médano is not an ideal surf spot if you are a high level surfer, although you may get lucky and find a day with clean waves of a decent size.
But if you are a beginner, rent a surfboard and try the small waves because the fun is guaranteed.
